History

Douglas Fabrication and Machine started as a sole proprietorship in 1985 and was incorporated in 1989. Originally housed in a one-car garage east of Raleigh, NC, the business eventually grew and relocated to a commercial space in the town of Wendell in 1996. By 2001, the original space in Wendell became crowded, so the business moved to it’s current location into a 30,000 square foot warehouse.

The company’s roots are in traditional machining. Starting with a manual ENCO milling machine, which we still have, we've grown to have multiple 3 axis CNC vertical machining centers as well as multiple CNC lathes. We have always maintained a machine shop, and that was the core of the business until enough space became available to add thermoforming capabilities. Two of the longest serving employees have a background in thermoforming, mold making, fixture making, and parts finishing. As space was now available, a rotary thermoforming machine was added to our equipment. Soon thereafter, we added a single station thermoforming machine to that. Our capabilities in thermoforming continue to expand. For finishing the thermoformed parts, we also have two 5 axis CNC routers and a 3 axis CNC router.

Along with thermoforming and machining, we have a fully developed welding shop. We offer MIG and TIG welding, as well as SMAW or stick welding. Plastic welding is another service we offer if your project and materials are suitable.
